Dear Brother,
I hope you have seen the news that Phi Gamma Delta is coming back to W&J.
In August, a Field Secretary from fraternity headquarters, Brian Hand (bhand@phigam.org), arrived in Washington. He will spend the semester establishing the new chapter. Phi Gamma Delta has developed a “The New Model” for chapter development. The New Model emphasizes the strengths of fraternity life: brotherhood, service, and leadership while adhering to strict risk management guidelines (no alcohol, no drugs).
Over the summer, Brian interviewed 10 undergraduates who expressed interest in joining Phi Gamma Delta. He is now conducting final interviews. Brian will determine which men will be a good fit for Phi Gamma Delta and initiate them this month.
At that point, we will have a new chapter!
Brian will spend the semester teaching our new brothers how to be a fraternity and recruiting other upperclassmen. The goal is to have 25 brothers by the end of the semester.
It is up to us to help them keep the chapter. There are ways we can all help:
- Recruiting: If you know men going to W&J, please refer them to Brian.
- Service: One of the things being instituted is a Board of Chapter Advisors. The BCA are graduate Fijis who can provide guidance and support for the chapter. Brothers will take on specific areas to advise including:
- Financial Management:
- Recruitment
- Risk Management
- Scholarship
The BCA will be organized and trained by the Area Section Leader, Matt Bocchi mattbocchi@pitt.edu. If you are interested in joining the BCA, please contact Matt directly. It will be especially helpful for younger graduates to volunteer to serve on the BCA.
- Financial: There are two areas where you can support the fraternity financially.
- The Phi Gamma Delta Scholarship Fund: This is a fund held by the college to offer scholarships to undergraduate members of Phi Gamma Delta. To donate, simply go to www.jayconnected.com/give at the bottom of the page check, “Other” and add Phi Gamma Delta Scholarship Fund in the comment section. These contributions are tax deductible.
- The Alpha Association Fund: For many years the Alpha Association has raised funds to support the chapter. The money we raise now will be used to:
- Support the chapter’s activities during their first semester. We expect to help with the cost of fraternity materials and recruiting events.
- Defray the cost of the Field Secretary for the semester.
- Funds for future years. The college is open to Phi Gamma Delta re-occupying the chapter house at 312 W. Chestnut once the chapter is established and there are enough brothers to fill all the beds. At that time, we will need to help furnish the house. We will also defray the cost of travel to the Ekklesia and Fiji Academy.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 toward these objectives.
